Life Legacy

Eli Shada age 81, of Anamosa, died Saturday morning, June 28, at his farm near Martelle following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Tuesday morning, July 1, 2003 at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa with entombment in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 8 Monday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Surviving is his wife, Rosalie, 2 sons, Ron Shada and Chuck (Candy) Shada both of Anamosa, 3 grandchildren, Tyler, Kamryn and Conrad and a sister, Rose Lawrence, Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his Parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Eli Shada was December 18, 1921 near Kearney, Nebraska. He was the son of Charles and Mary Gabriel, Shada. Eli received his education in the rural schools near his home. Eli Shada and Rosalie Brickley were married November 21, 1945 at Chicago, Illinois. Eli started working as an Auctioneer with his father-in-law Delbert Brickley in 1947 at the Anamosa Sale Barn. From 1952 through 1988 Eli owned and operated the Mechanicsville Sale barn as well. He purchased the Anamosa Sale Barn in 1968 and rebuilt it after a fire in 1970. Farming and cattle were Elis loves. He would travel a 15 state area to buy cattle for his auctions and other buyers.
