Alan Jay Ahrendsen, age 65, of Anamosa passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026 in his home after a short battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Alan was born on August 14, 1960 in Monticello, the son of Leo and Virginia (Foy) Ahrendsen. He graduated from Olin High School, class of 1979. Alan attended Kirkwood and received an AA degree in construction. Alan and Julie Ulrich brought their beloved daughter, Emelie Ahrendsen into the world in 1997. Alan married Michelle Joslyn on February 26, 2011. Being united in marriage brought Alan a cherished bonus son, Jaden Meyer.

Alan dedicated more than 40 years to the construction industry. He and Al Hansen, his best friend since grade school, founded A&A Construction in 1984. They turned their shared dream into a successful business they built together through hard work and dedication.

What set Alan apart wasn't just the quality of his craftsmanship, it was the kindness he brought to every project. For Alan, construction was never just about the job itself. He took the time to listen to his customers, making sure they felt heard, cared for, and valued. Building relationships was just as important to him as building homes.

Alan was a hardworking man, strong, silly, kindhearted, and a sweet soul. Alan loved the outdoors, hunting, the Iowa Hawkeyes, eating delicious food, and being surrounded by good people.

He is survived by his wife Michelle Ahrendsen, his children Emelie Ahrendsen (Curtis Behrens) and Jaden Meyer; sisters Marcia Nielsen (Warren), Kathy Houstman (Larry), Sandra Less (Rick); brother Lynn Ahrendsen (Shelly); stepmother JoAnn Ahrendsen, nieces and nephews; and his animals Subi, Bear, Jazzlyn, and Caymen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Leo, and his grandparents, Arthur and Matilda Ahrendsen and William and Lydia Foy.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 Tuesday morning, July 28, 2026 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anmosa with interment in the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Monday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Chaplin David Wise will officiate at the services.
