Obituary

In Postville, Iowa on August 6, 1948, Elver and Gaynal Anderson announced the birth of their son Barry Allen.

Barry passed away on January 27, 2024, after a long-fought battle with cancer.

Barry grew up on a farm in West Union, Iowa. Barry graduated from North Fayette High school in 1966. Several months later he joined the Navy and did his basic training in San Diego, CA. He did specialty training for the Navy in Florida before boarding the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk doing two tours in the Vietnam War.

On April 11, 1970, he married Wilma Sperry. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Barry and Wilma moved back to Iowa where Barry worked for several farmers before taking on a job at Ralston Foods (National Oats) where he spent his 40 years of employment. During retirement Barry enjoyed being with family, woodworking, fishing, and camping.

Barry is survived by his wife, Wilma, their three children, Chad Anderson (Robyn Sebetka) of Marion, IA, Heidi (Micheal) Vermace of Indianola IA and Wade (Angie) Anderson of Ames, IA, four granddaughters, Lauren and Lily Anderson, Madalyn and Raelyn Vermace, two brothers, Frank (Jeanette) Anderson and Paul (Janann) Anderson several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
