Obituary

Bernhard Tobiason, 66, died Wednesday October 7, 2026 at the Hospice of Mercy House, Hiawatha.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 Tuesday morning, October 20, 2026 at S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran church, rural Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 Tuesday morning at the church. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Bernhard and his family into their care.

Surviving are his siblings, Shirley (Wayne) Eiben, Sharon (Steve) Hanken, Sharlene (Jeff) Soper, Gary Tobiason, a niece, Chloe (Kyle) Heginger, nephews, Sean ( Cabrina) Soper, Cody (Shaley) Soper, great-nephew, Rex Soper, soon to be great-niece Kendyl Heginger. He was preceded by his parents, and a nephew Christopher Soper.

Bernahrd Lyle Tobiason was born October 25, 1959 at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa to Lyle and Marcella Moenk Tobiason. He graduated with the class of 1978 at the Monticello Community High School. He went to work at Cuckler Buildings riding his bicycle back and forth to work each day. Bernhard later took up carpentry as a trade working for Don Monk. He progressed in the trade and became a finish carpenter.

Bernhard enjoyed riding bikes and running in his younger days. He played, tuba, in the band in high school. He also wrestled and participated in track. He enjoyed reading, working with his hands and board games as an adult.
