Obituary

Our Mother, Betty Lubben, 98, of Anamosa, formerly of Onslow, died peacefully Sunday, November 12, 2023.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life service to be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 20, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa. Rev. Rodney Bluml will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Zion Cemetery, rural Monticello. We will greet family and friends from 9 to 10:45 am Monday at the church. Please use Mom's guestbook to share your thoughts, memories, and condolences.

Mom, Betty Jane Baker, was born on the family farm near Russell, IA on June 12, 1925, the daughter of Tisae and Gladys (Kells) Baker. The family moved to Anamosa, and she graduated from Anamosa High School as a member of the Class of 1943. On June 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to John Alvin Lubben at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in the Anamosa area until moving to town in 1964. She then worked as an egg grader at Hayden's Produce, after which she was a cake decorator for Westphal Grocery. She finished her working career and retired from Doerr Electric.

Her faith was an integral part of who she was. Being a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School and was a member of various Church Circles. She also volunteered in the Midland Community School District and at the Anamosa Care Center. Mom had many interests, among them were gardening, baking, and spending time in the kitchen. She enjoyed making funny birthday cards, collecting Presidential plates and memorabilia, entertaining family and friends, working crossword, word search, and jigsaw puzzles, and getting together with the Onslow Coffee Group.

Remembering her are her children Judy (Jim) Askam, Cedar Rapids, Jan (Fred) Muńoz, Littleton, CO, and Jerry (Karen) Lubben, Redlands, CA, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, a sister Eva Kray, Anamosa, and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was preceded in death by our Dad John Alvin in 1991, a sister and brother-in-law Wilma and Bob Walton, a baby sister Opal Jeanette Baker, a brother-in-law Gerhard Kray and her special friend Darvin Harderson.

We wish to thank the caring staffs of the Anamosa Care Center and Above & Beyond Hospice. We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Woodland Park, whom our mother dearly loved.

In lieu of flowers we ask that memorials be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
