Obituary

Brenda Kohl, 73, of Monticello, Iowa, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 22, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by her loving family.

Brenda Sue Licht was born October 30, 1952, in San Angelo, Texas, to Gordon and Joan (Koch) Licht. She grew up in the Stanwood area and graduated from Lincoln Community Schools in 1971.

In 1971, Brenda married Carlyle “Butch” Moore at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stanwood. Together they had three sons before divorcing. Brenda spent much of her career as an administrative assistant at Rockwell Collins and, after retiring in 2014, returned as a contractor.

Strong, independent, and devoted to those she loved, Brenda found her greatest joy in her family, especially her grandchildren. She also cherished her pets, Annie and Georgie. A breast cancer survivor, Brenda faced life’s challenges with courage and determination.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons, Michael Moore, Darrin (Jennifer) Moore, and Ryan (Katrina) Moore; seven grandchildren, Haley, Landon, Stormi, Raven, Kira, Mycah, and Harper; three great-grandchildren, with another expected soon; her father and stepmother, Gordon and Portia Licht; and her siblings, Cyndi Baumbach, John (Mindy) Licht, Lisa Broten, and Cristina Swinton.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Joan and Richard John; her grandparents, Emil and Marian Licht, Bernice Reid, and Edward Koch; and her brothers-in-law, Mike Baumbach and Ron Swinton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Red Oak Park near Tipton at a later date. Private interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home of Monticello has taken Brenda and her family into their care.
