Catherine Thomsen, 82, of Anamosa, passed peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Anamosa Care Center.
A Remembrance Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Rev. Kathry Newhall will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery, rural Anamosa. Friends may call from 9:30 am to the time of service. Catherine Morning was born January 10, 1942, in Anamosa, IA, the daughter of Ray and Iva (Miller) Morning. She graduated in the Class of 1959 from Olin Consolidated High School. Later that year she married John Thomsen at the United Methodist Church in Olin.
She farmed with her husband near Wyoming, and then went on to work at the Midland Times, Walmart and later the Anamosa Care Center. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed golf and fishing. She inherited her talents as a carpenter from her father and used them to remodel the farmhouse where she cared for the most important thing in her life – her family.
She is survived by her children Rita (Lynn) Balichek, Oxford Junction, and Ray (Natta) Thomsen, Cedar Rapids, grandchildren Chris (Brooke) Balichek, Nick (Casey Berrier) Balichek, Lee (Kari) Thomsen, Stephanie (Jason Maschmann) Von Behren, Drew Thomsen, and Cortney (Cory) Pearson, twelve great grandchildren: Isabelle, Kayser, Brayden, Jace, Ethan, Tate, Avery, Mara, Sierra, Saige, Liam, and Lakeyn and a brother-in-law Mike Lasack and her nieces and nephews Rose, Carrie, Cindy, Cheri, Roy, Dave, and Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Harold Eugene Morning, a sister Ann Lasack, her brother Ken and wife Rose Morning and a sister Virginia and her husband Jim Glick.
In lieu of flowers and gifts the family asks that memorials be directed to Unity Point Hospice Anamosa, 121 East Main Street, Anamosa, IA 52205
