Charlene (Char) G. Manuel, 83, of Mason City, formerly of Anamosa, passed away June 13 in Mason City, Iowa.
She was born May 20, 1938, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Alvina (Lamberty) Riesberg. She graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1956. In 1959 she married Jay F. Shirbroun in Halbur, Iowa. Together they had two children, Robert (Bob) and Terri.
In 1983 she married John (Jack) Manuel in Carroll, Iowa. They lived in Anamosa until 1988 when they moved to Lake View, Iowa. Char worked in the accounting department at Loring Hospital in Sac City until retiring in 2005 and moving back to Anamosa.
Char was an avid volunteer and supporter of Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a great host to friends and family at the lake and later at her Anamosa home for 'toddies'.
Survivors include her children Robert (Donna) Shirbroun of Spirit Lake, Terri (Brian) Heck of Clear Lake, Pam (Gaylen) Kray of Monticello, Jeff Manuel of Fredericksburg, VA, daughter-in-law Patty Manuel of Olin, son-in-law Kevin Posekany of Cedar Rapids, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter; her brother Donald Riesburg of Halbur, and sisters, Shirley Fleskes, Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Carol (Dick) Donovan, Des Moines, and Ginny Walsh, Marble Head, Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jay in 1977 and her husband Jack in 2014, brother Duane Riesberg, sisters Phyllis Riesberg, and Bonnie Thein, son Brad Manuel, two daughters, Lynda Manuel and Diane Posekany. A niece Jamie McColluch and nephew Brad Fleskes.
Funeral services Friday, June 18, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 pm with service at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa. A celebration of life gathering will be hosted by the family following the burial at the American Legion Hall in Anamosa. A graveside burial will also be held in Carroll, IA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be sent to Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, IA.
