Obituary

Connie Shover of Monticello died peacefully on May 24 at her family's Monticello home with her family at her side.

Connie was born June 5, 1949 to Myric and Corrine Shover, who named her Olive Consuelo. Her family immediately shortened that to "Connie".   After graduation from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, she enrolled at Rollins College in St. Augustine, Florida where she graduated   with both B.A. and M.A. degrees.

On returning to Iowa, Connie lived briefly in Cedar Rapids and then moved to the family's Monticello base. For decades she commuted to work in Cedar Rapids, where she was a School Counselor for Roosevelt Junior High and then Jefferson High School. After her retirement from CRCSD,  she received honors for her professional accomplishments.

After two decades of courtship, Connie married her lifelong love Donald Holmes of Monticello in 2006. They shared an absolutely wonderful life together that was filled with love and laughter. Connie had no children, but instead she completely devoted herself to her husband, her aging parents, her siblings, and her two nephews. She presided over the Shover Family farms—called Shomont-- that remained in place for 150 years.

She is survived by her loving husband Don Holmes, her sister Michele Shover, her brother Tom Shover (Brenda) and her two nephews (Tom's sons) Christopher Shover (Laura)  and Justin Shover (Kiley Bohlken). Her Great nephews and niece are Chase Shover, Alexandria Shover , Dylan Shover, Blake Shover and Gracyn Galaviz, all of Monticello, Iowa.

Connie touched a lot of people's hearts throughout her life with her unparalleled sense of kindness, compassion and generosity. If you were fortunate enough to know her, you were most likely touched by her in one way or another. She was a very special soul that will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
