Dale L. Barnes Jr. 69, of Anamosa, Iowa passed away the morning of March 31, 2024, at St Luke's Hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 Saturday morning, April 13, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Marion. Interment will be in the Czeck National Cemetery.    Pastor Andrew Noble will officiate at the services.   Visitation will be held from Friday April 12 from 3 until 7 Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.   Thoughts, memories, and condolences may be left at www. goettschonline.com

Surviving are his wife Sharon Barnes; 6 Children, Heather (Tim) Wilcox, Holly (Chad) Avery, Logan (Megan) Barnes, Landon (Allyson) Barnes, Lance (Megan) Barnes and Hillary (Tommy) Ostrander: 10 grandchildren Luke Wilcox, Livy Wilcox, Ben Barnes, Sophie Barnes, Theo Barnes, Marcus Avery, Morgan Barnes, Harrison Barnes, Becker Barnes and Henry Ostrander; his siblings Rose (Tom) Tiska, Gloria Barnes, Beverly Bindoo, Don (Jane) Barnes, and Angie (Kevin) McVay.  He was preceded in death by his parents Dale Sr. and Doris Barnes.

Dale L. Barnes Jr. was born January 14, 1955, in Greenfield, Iowa. The son of Dale Sr. and Doris (David) Barnes. Dale graduated from Greenfield High School, with the class of 1973.  He attended Kirkwood Community College studying law enforcement.  Dale married the love of his life Sharon L. Mader June 20, 1976 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Center Point. The couple was truly blessed with 6 children and 47 years of marriage.  Dale was a hard worker, dedicating 42 years to Law Enforcement. He retired from the Jones County Sheriff's office in 2019. He was elected to multiple terms as Mayor of Anamosa as he enjoyed making a difference in his community. He also enjoyed working at the Wapsipinicon State Park and for Jones County Conservation.

Dale loved spending time with his family. He always looked forward to the deer hunting season and fishing with his family and friends. Dale was an excellent role model, teaching what it means to put others before yourself. He was reliable, steady and true, always standing up for what was right and fighting for those who could not fight for themselves. Dale was deeply loved and will be greatly missed!
