Obituary

Dale J. Zimmerman, age 70, passed away at his home Saturday, July 24, 2021, after a brief illness.  He was  surrounded by his loving family as he made his final journey.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 Friday morning, July 30, 2021 at St Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello. Pastor David Raemisch will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, Iowa.

Friends may call  from 4 to 7 Thursday afternoon at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Survivors include his wife, Grace, Monticello, Daughter Rebecca (Ryan) Burger, Grimes, Iowa, 2 Sons Timothy (Elaine), Fairbank, Scott (Stephanie), Waterloo, Grandchildren Paige, Emily, Marc, Aaron, and Rachel Burger, Kyle, Bryce, Krayton Zimmerman, and Reece Drew, Jon and Marilyn Zimmerman, his sister Marie (Ce'sar) Escobar, San Bernadino, CA, a brother Dean (Lynette Seigley) Zimmerman, Monticello. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, 2 Brothers-In-law and 1 Sister-in-law.

Dale John Zimmerman was born January 2, 1951 to Lorenz and Loretta (Kray) Zimmerman at Monticello, Iowa.  He graduated with the Monticello High School class of 1969.  Dale married his high school sweetheart, Grace Behrends, on August 1, 1970, and they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. Together they raised 3 children, Rebecca, Timothy and Scott.  Dale was employed by GP in Monticello for 42 years.

Dale was a lifetime Jaycee member, holding many local, regional and state offices.  He received his JCI Senatorship in 1983.  Dale was actively involved in his community and church.  He served on church council St. Matthew Lutheran Church, and for the last 8 years  was the  church custodian.  Dale was a very welcoming person. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
