Darel Secrist age 52, died Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from injuries received in an auto accident.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, November 27, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Anamosa. Interment will be private at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 Monday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Jones Regional Hospital. Pastors Steve Dornbusch and Rodney Blumel will officiate at the services.
Darel is survived by his wife, Laura; 4 children, Kiana, Kylee, Seth and Elijah; his mother, Donna (Dale Jr.) Condry; 2 brothers, Darin (Karen) Secrist, David (Sarah) Secrist; his step-grandmother, Ardith Condry; a step-sister, Holly (Jeff) Chittick; a step-sister-in-law, Libby (Ty) Hess; his mother and father-in-law, Steve and Kathy Dornbusch; and a brother-in-law, Jason Dornbusch. He was preceded in death by his father, Mike Secrist in 1998.
Darel Matthew Secrist was born October 15, 1966 at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of Michael and Donna Remington Secrist. Darel graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools with the class of 1985. He continued his education at Wartburg College in Waverly graduating in 1989. After graduation from Wartburg, Darel worked with his father in Secrist Construction and continued the business following his father's death.
Darel and his family are members of St. Paul Lutheran in Anamosa, where Darel was extremely active in countless activities, serving as council president on multiple occasions and for multiple years. He continually volunteered his carpentry and building expertise to help with church projects, as well as volunteering year after year to lead youth mission trips and teaching in the WD4 youth programs.
Darel's main hobby was his cows. He loved every facet of raising his black angus herd and was sought after by other cattle producers to A-I their cows. He was a member Angus Association. He also coached several sports for kids in the community.
But, Darel's main love and devotion was saved for family, each of whom he treasured deeply. He will be greatly missed.
