Daryl Porter, 65, died Monday April 15, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Friday morning, April 26, 2024, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 9:00 until time of service. Pastor Cheryl Gates will officiate at the services. Thoughts, memories, and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com
Surviving is his wife of 38 years Deborah, 2 children, Leilani (Tiffany) Porter, Joe (Elizabeth) Ortman,7 grandchildren, Vanessa, Bentlee, Anna, Ashleigh, Brooklynn, Carley, Destiny, his brother David Porter and in-laws, Sharon Porter, Rosie (Ron) Hendricks, Nina Kray, Sherry Schonberg, Janet (Ted) McDonald, Tony Yonkovic. He was preceded by his parents, and 3 brothers, Milton, Bob, and Daniel.
Daryl Arnold Porter was born April 29, 1958, at Wadena, Minnesota. He was the son of Dorance and Velma Bensley, Porter Sr. His family relocated to Hopkinton, Iowa and Daryl graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1976. Daryl married Deborah Yonkovic on September 7, 1985, at the Hopkinton Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Gulf War in a MASH unit. When he returned from service the couple settled in Monticello. Daryl was employed by Cascade Die Mold and Orbis. In 1999 he went to work for Ralson Foods in Cedar Rapids and retired from there in 2023.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but the time spent with his grandchildren was the best.
