Obituary

David Hiler 77, died Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. Lukes Hospital Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Private family services will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello, Iowa.  Goettsch Funeral Home, has taken David and his family into their care.

Surviving is his wife Karen, 3 sons, Todd, Gary (Gina) Marc (Danielle) 7 grandchildren, Derrick, Megan, Spencer, Mason, Logan, Gaven and Adyn 9 great-grandchildren, and brothers, Gary (Solange) and James.  He was preceded by his parents and a sister, Sharon.

David E. Hiler was born July 8, 1948, at Vinton, Iowa, the son of Darrell and Marjorie Carlisle, Hiler. He attended the Vinton, Iowa schools. David married Karen Wilson on September 24, 1966, at Monticello, Iowa.

David started his working career as a tuck pointer for the D.C. Taylor company, and became a skilled welder working at Cuckler Buildings in Monticello and Energy Manufacturing. He worked many years as a metal fabricator and welder for LeFebure. Dave later returned to Energy Manufacturing to finish his career.

David enjoyed cars and car racing. He restored both a 39 Ford and 56 Ford.  He was passionate about dirt track racing including go-karts, stock cars, and modifieds. A passion he shared with his sons. When it was football season, he was a 49ers fan.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Monticello Area Ambulance Service, as well as St. Luke's Hospital and Hospice for the care provided to David during his illness.
