Obituary

Dennis Joslyn, 80, died Wednesday November 29, 2023, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a battle with Parkinson's disease.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 Wednesday morning December 6, 2023, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery.   Military Honors will be presented by the United States Air Force.  Pastor David Raemisch will officiate at the services.   Friends may call from 10:00 until 10:45 at the church.  Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Dennis and his family into their care.  Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com .

Surviving is his daughter, Sonya (Jim) Grant, a son Lon, 3 grandchildren, Kristina (Mike) Wade, Samantha Grant, Katlyn Joslyn, 5 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Jackson and Cody Wade, Timothy Stoker and Jo Meyer, 3 sisters-in-law, Linda Mardorf, Dorla and Marilyn Joslyn.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Suzanne, 3 brothers Harley, Hareld and James and a brother-in-law Gary Mardorf.

Dennis Dale Joslyn was born November 4, 1943, at Manchester, Iowa.  He was the son of Hareld and Fern Hindal, Joslyn.   Denny attended the Oneida School through grades 1-8 then to Greeley for 9&10, 11th in Earlville and he graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1961.  He entered the United States Air Force on May 29, 1961.

Denny married Suzanne Mardorf November 22, 1961 at the Oneida Methodist Church.   His Air Force career took the family to Great Falls, MT, the Philippines, Vietnam, Georgia, Colorado, Thailand, California, Germany, North Carolina, and Iowa as a Reservist, then back to California where he retired from the service in 1983.  Denny then worked as a school bus driver and charter bus driver in California until they sold their home in 1989 and traveled the United States in an RV until 1993 when they moved to Monticello.  Denny then became the sexton of Oakwood Cemetery from 1993 until 1996.  He then went to work for the Monticello Schools as a bus driver and custodian. Denny retired from the school in January of 2004.

Among the numerous awards and commendations that Denny received while in the Air Force were AF SM Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, AF Longevity Service with 3 Oak Leaf's, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf's, AF Master Tech Award, AF Accommodation Medal.
