Doris Zimmerman, 83, of Anamosa, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday morning, February 17, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A celebration of Doris's life will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the First Congregational Church in Anamosa. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate the services. Family and friends are invited to gather and pay their respects beginning at 11:00 AM at the church on Saturday. Doris leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her devoted husband of 66 years, Richard; her three sons, Rick (Carol), Scott (Sarah), and Steve (Jean); seven beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Cortney, Emily, Anthony, Nicholas, Rachael, and Sara; and fifteen precious great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Doris (Anderson) Darrow, as well as her brothers, Bernard and Robert Darrow.

Born on April 1, 1941, on the family farm near Olin, Iowa, Doris's life was rooted in love, faith, and hard work. A proud graduate of Olin High School's Class of 1958, she married the love of her life, Richard Zimmerman, on October 5 of that same year at the E.U.B. Church in Olin. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their family on a farm along the Linn-Jones Road near Anamosa.

Doris was the heart of her family and a dedicated farm wife and mother. She found great joy in nurturing her children and supporting her community. She was a 4-H leader, a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the County Election Board, and a teacher's aide at Viola Elementary School. Her love for children and education touched many lives, and her kindness was felt by all who knew her.

Faith was the foundation of Doris's life. She was a devoted and active member of the First Congregational Church in Anamosa, where she gave her time and talents to support the church community, she held so dear. Her generosity, warmth, and unwavering faith were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Doris's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Anamosa Care Center and St. Luke's Hospice for the compassionate care she received in her final days.

Though she may be gone, the love, kindness, and dedication Doris shared throughout her life will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church in Anamosa or to a charity of the donor's choice, in honor of Doris's lifelong spirit of giving.
