Obituary

Duane R. Ammeter, 84 of rural Anamosa, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 of a sudden illness. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date, and his ashes will be interred in the timber of his favorite hunting spot.

Duane Roy Ammeter was born on February 15, 1934 in Delaware County, Iowa, the son of Albert 'Bert' and Blanche (Aldrich) Ammeter. He attended country schools in Delaware County, graduating from Manchester High School in 1951. On November 8, 1956 he was united in marriage with Janet Lindemier. They later divorced. He was employed as a laborer and machine operator at Wilson Foods/Farmstead for 35 years until his retirement in 1990, when the plant was closed. He served his country in the Iowa National Guard for 11 years.

Survivors include 5 children: Susan (Dennis) Martin of Fayette; David (Kathy) of rural Anamosa; Danny (friend Connie) of Floyd; Lori (Bryan) Coster of Marion and Michael of Anamosa; his brother Darwin of Cedar Rapids; sister Sandy (Ron) Scott of Brighton and brother-in-law Merle Henderson of Coggon. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Noe, Melissa Noe, Kristina Martin, Alex Martin and Kennedy Ammeter, and a great-granddaughter Ainsleigh Chambers whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Verla Henderson.

Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He also liked cheering on the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a member of the Anamosa Bowhunters Club.

Duane was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
