Obituary

Franklin Gerhard Frostestad died at home on October 28, 2024 from the effects of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch 11:00 Saturday morning  November 2, 2024. Visitation will be prior to service from 9-11. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello at 2 pm. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Frank and his family into their care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, University of Iowa Cancer Center, Iowa City Hospice, or EWALU Lutheran camp in his name.

Frank was born on October 25, 1943, to Elsa (Wierli) Frostestad and Frithjof Frostestad in Brooklyn, New York. He was educated in the New York City public schools and graduated from Fort Hamilton High School. He attended St. Olaf College, graduating with a BA in History and Social Studies. Further education included an MA in History from the University of Northern Iowa, an Educational Specialist in Higher Education, and an MA in Library and Information Science both from the University of Iowa.

He met his wife of 58 years, Eulyn (Reninger) while they were students at St. Olaf. After they were married on June 25, 1966, they moved to Monticello Iowa. Frank taught in the social studies department at Monticello High School for 30 years. He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church serving in many capacities. While in Monticello he was active in the Boy Scout program and served on the Monticello City Council.

Frank and Eulyn moved to West Branch, Iowa in 1996. He worked in a public library, then a community college library, and finished with nine years as the Librarian/Media Specialist at Assumption High School in Davenport. In retirement, he was a substitute teacher in the West Branch Middle School and High School for five and a half years. In West Branch, he was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He served as the chair of the West Branch Zoning Board. Most of all, Frank liked spending time with his family, reading, walking, and traveling.

He leaves behind his wife, Eulyn, and children Eric (Kathy) Frostestad, David (Emily) Frostestad, and Heidi Frostestad (Kuehl), grandchildren Kristofer Frostestad, Ethan (Aly) Frostestad, Kalyn Frostestad (Corbin Elliott), Timothy Frostestad, Benjamin Frostestad, Caleb Frostestad, Bethany Frostestad, Grace Kuehl, sister-in-law Carolyn Eness, and nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby daughter, brother Ronald, mother and father-in-law Ruth and Leonard Reninger, brother-in-law Dean Reninger, brother-in-law Arlyn Eness and nephew Jonathan Reninger.
