Obituary

Herbert Lee Benton, 93 died Sunday, July 20, 2025 in Thorton Colorado.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 Friday afternoon, August 1, 2025 at Wilcox Cemetery, rural, Anamosa.   Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Lee and his family into their care.  I lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Schriners Children's Hospital.


Surviving is his wife Joyce, 2 children, Steven (Mindy) Benton, Denise (John) Kasza, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way, a sister Geneva Whiting.  He was preceded by his parents a son Daniel, 2 brothers John and David and a sister, Viola Gerdes.


Herbert Lee Benton was born August 25, 1931, near Coggon, Iowa, the son of Herbert Guy and Stella Gail Joslin, Benton.  Lee graduated from the Coggon High School and then enlisted in the United States Airforce during the Korean War. This is where he learned about being an electrician.  Following his return from service he was employed by Justice Electric.  Lee then started working on large projects building power plants, factories and hospitals and was the foreman on most of those jobs.  He was a member of the IBEW Local and served as the treasurer for a time.

Lee married Joyce Bader on October 21, 1955, at Peace United Church of Christ, Monticello.
Lee was a member of the Cedar Rapids Masonic Lodge, and the ElKahir Shrine.
