J ames (Jim) D. Avery, age 70, of Scotch Grove, Iowa passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 Monday morning, January 16, 2023 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery.   Pastor Dave Raemisch will officiate at the services.  Visitation will be held  from 3 until 6 Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Welfare Friends, 22407 Highway 151 Monticello.

Surviving are his 3 children, Lisa (Spike) Largent, Shawna (Nathan) Avery, and Chad (Holly) Avery; grandchildren Stephanie Kennell, Michelle Largent, Colton Rickels, and Marcus Avery; his siblings, Tom (Anne) Avery, John (Tammy) Avery, and Patricia Avery.

He was preceded in death by his wife LaQuetta Avery and his parents and siblings Bonnie Tapken and Ronnie Avery.

Jim was born May 26th, 1952.  The son of Lewis (Ace) and Betty (Richardson) Avery.  Jim attended Maquoketa Valley High School.  He was a hard worker and was employed by Harnischferger, Scotch Grove Nursery, and Morris & Company over the years.  He retired in 2014.   Jim married LaQuetta Halley January 19, 2010.

Jim loved his family and his dogs.  He enjoyed gambling, farming, hunting, racing dogs and anything that was outdoors.  He was a member of Pheasants Forever.  He loved to watch Nascar, football especially the Chiefs and Hawkeye's.
