Janet Monk, 92, died Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her children by her side.

A private family service will be held on Sunday October 4, 2026, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. A celebration of life will be held at the Monticello Veterans Hall starting at 3:00, Sunday.

Surviving are her four children, Douglas (Micaela), Stephen (Lisa), Karen (Steve) Siefert, Kimberly (Loren) Boyd, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, her in-laws, Dale Hein, Donna Fluckiger, Rosie (Bill) Dougherty, John (Marcia) Monk. She was preceded by her parents, her husband Donald, and siblings, Althea Hein and Dewain Fluckiger.

Janet Jean Fluckiger was born January 27, 1934, at Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of John and Edna Schneider Fluckiger. Janet graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1953. She worked at Hoag Duster and Cuckler Buildings in Monticello. Janet married Donald Monk on August 5, 1956, at St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Castle Grove. The couple farmed near Monticello until 2018 when they moved to town. Janet loved living in town and Don liked it. She loved the Friday trips to the Casino with her family.
