Obituary

Jerry Ray 75, of Tiffin, formerly of Monticello, died Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Lantern Park Care Center, Coralville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Thursday morning, November 16, 2023, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where friends may call after 9:30 until service time.  Pastor Kirk Statler will officiate at the services. Surviving are his children, Kim (Dave) Steinbronn, Shane (Sue) Frasher, David (Shelley) Frasher, Steve (Tammy) Riley, Debbie (John) Seller, Carrie (Les) Heiken, 2 brothers, John and Larry, and many grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter Kelly, a son Kevin, a sister, Verda Schickles, and a brother, Ron.

Jerry Lee Ray was born on January 28, 1948, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa.  He was the son of Robert and Nellie Nagle, Ray.   He graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1966.  Jerry served in the United States Army, First Air Calvary Division during the Vietnam War.  He received two Purple Hearts and 2 Bronze Stars during his deployment.  Jerry was discharged in 1970.   He married JoAnn Finn on May 1, 1977, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Jerry was a corrections officer for 28 years at the Anamosa Reformatory.  He retired in 2003.  Jerry and his son Shane were able to make an Honor Flight in 2021.  Jerry loved to travel visiting London and Ireland twice, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.  He was an avid Cowboys and Hawkeye Fan.   He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
