Obituary

John Sanders, 54, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where the family will greet friends from 3:00 pm to the time of service. John David Sanders was born August 1, 1964 in Roanoke Rapids, NC, the son of John H. and Carolyn (Mead) Sanders, Jr. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1982. He married Lucille Jarina on May 20, 2003 in Richmond, VA. The couple moved to Anamosa in 2008 to be closer to Lucille's family. He was employed as a care giver to special need adults and worked for Advancement Services of Jones County in Monticello.

He will be remembered as someone who loved games shows, telling jokes and pulling pranks, and enjoyed music. Through his church, he participated in programs which fed hungry people in the Philippines.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Lucille, his son and daughter-in-law Waverly Burgess and Polly Richardson, Rocky Mount NC, his siblings Allen, Richmond, Susan (Shannon) Lawson, Richmond, and Tammy Sanders, Roanoke Rapids, in-laws Ingrid Jarina, Pillippines, Filgie Jarina, Anamosa, Ramon (Annalyn) Jarina, Darwin, Australia, and Filreen Jarina, Philippines, nieces Stephanie Sanders, Emporia, VA, Megan Duck, Richmond, and Michelle Jones, Greensborough, NC, nephews Tony Orpiano and Brandon Orpiano, both of Richmond, an aunt Betty Bulas, Richmond, and an uncle Bobby Sanders, Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, a brother Michael Wayne Sanders, and a brother-in-law Manuel Rojo.
