Joyce Ellen Mensen was born September 4, 1951, in Manchester, IA, the daughter of Ambrose and Mary Ann (Engelken) Mensen. She attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from Manchester High School in the Class of 1969. On November 6, 1971, she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Wendt, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester. They shared 50 years together until his passing in 2022. They raised their family and farmed together in Jones County. She will be remembered as a good and caring farm wife who loved to cook, garden, enjoy painting projects at Whispering Pines with her sisters and grandchildren, going to the Rock Shop in Clarence with friends and grandchildren and spending time with her family – especially with her grandchildren at the cabin in Delhi.
Joyce is survived by her children, Sally (Jamie) Meyer, Ken (Heidi Baker), Sam (Stephanie), Randy, and Roger (Lauren, aka Tex), and grandchildren, Emily, Wesley, Maggie, Isaac, Elisabeth, Cole, and Kaylee, her siblings Jim (Jeanette) Mensen, Agnes (Don) Burns, Carolyn (Allen) Wilson, Donna (Bill) Thomsen, Sandy (Bob) Kass, Janet Fortman, Bill (Lisa) Mensen, Diane (Mike) Even, Teresa Mensen, and Ruth (Al) Boge and sisters-in-law Bonnie (Don) Dingman, Jodee (Todd) Schumacher, and Renee (Ed) Tibbot.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Wilber and Emily Wendt, a brother-in-law Arnie Fortman, and a nephew Carl Casper.
The family would like to thank the staffs at the Anamosa Care Center, Mercy Medical Center Oncology, and Above & Beyond Hospice for the wonderful care Joyce received.
