Kathryn Vona (nee: Whalen) Green, 98, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Born on August 21, 1927, to William and Vona Whalen. Kathryn was gentle, warm, kind, caring, uplifting and beloved by everyone who knew her. She devoted her life to her family and the Catholic Church, Specifically St. Alberts In Heber Springs and St. Bernards in Bella Vista. She and Chris had three children, ten grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

She had a special place in her heart for the youth of our world, as she worked in our school systems in both Illinois and Arkansas. She was an incredible Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and friend to so many that she knew. She could often be found outdoors, whether it was golf and sailing in her younger years, fishing, camping and canoeing in Minnesota with her husband and children, or cultivating her vegetable and flower Gardens, she simply loved to be out with nature.

She was educated in a one room schoolhouse in Anamosa Iowa, and lived a childhood on a small farm on the Buffalo River with her brothers and sisters. She would tell stories about walking to school no matter the weather, three miles uphill both ways. While the distance was correct that one liner did become a well-worn saying in the family when we accused someone of exaggerating. She was of a generation that experienced some of the greatest highs and the absolute greatest lows known to those of us here now. She had an inner fortitude and incredible faith in our Lord that carried her, and those willing to walk with her through it all. She will be remembered for her love of life, her smile, and the vigor with which she went after life every day.

Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Christie Green, and her siblings: John Whalen, Michael Whalen, Jerry Whalen and Winifred (Whalen) Micks.

She is survived by; her daughter, Carol Ann (Green) Conrad, of Lebanon, OH; her son, William Paul Green, of Rogers, AR; and her son, Robert Sheldon Green, of Boise, ID.

Kathryn’s funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Anamosa, Iowa on Monday July 27, 2026. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa.
