Laura Eiben age 92, died Tuesday November 30, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids following a period of declining health.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 Saturday morning, December 4, 2021 at the Scotch Grove Country Church, rural Monticello (15791 95th Ave) with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at www. Goettschonline.com. Mask are recommended but not required. Pastor Frank Shepherd will officiate at the services.
Surviving is, a daughter, Janice Wright, Hopkinton, 3 sons, Wayne (Shirley), Ervin (Julie), both of Monticello, Ernest (Pam), Hopkinton, 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Jannette Weets and Elsie Chapman, and a sister-in-law, Marion (James) Blunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, a grandson, Shane Wright, 4 siblings, Alice, Lillian, William and Melvin.
Laura Belle Marguerite Wall was born, September 27, 1929 at Farley, Iowa. She received her education in the rural schools near her home. She worked as a housekeeper for several families in Cascade before she married Clarence Eiben on May 16, 1953 at the Community Presbyterian Church, Cascade. They farmed in the Onslow/ Center Junction area until 1968 when they bought a farm near Hopkinton in South Fork Township of Delaware County. Laura was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother first and foremost. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, play games, even doing somersaults with them. She picked berries for the Kirkwood's, as well as wild berries to sell at the farmers market along with her homemade baked goods. She worked alongside of Clarence on the farm and also helped him with the scrap metal business. Laura was also part of the cleaning group at the Hopkinton Presbyterian Church for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and quilting.
