Leo Joseph Delay, 76, of Monticello, IA, passed away at U of I Hospital on Monday April 10, 2023, after a sudden illness with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 Saturday morning, April 15, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Castle Grove.   Friends may call from 3 until 7 Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where a parish Vigil Service will be held  at 3:00.

Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Rose; daughter Jennifer (Marc) James of Mount Vernon; son Mark Delay of Portland, OR; brother Bill Delay of Monticello; brothers-sisters-in-law Allan (Mary) Wolfe, Dianne Wolfe, Beverly Sather, Richard Stenberg, many nieces and nephews and special god-child Hannah Rose Wehlre. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Elsie (English) Delay; a sister Sister Joan Marie PBVM; In-laws William and Beulah Wolfe, John Wolfe, Delaine Sather, and Mary Stenberg.

Leo was born November 8, 1946, at Anamosa Hospital to William and Elsie (English) Delay. Leo attended Sacred Heart School and graduated in 1965.  He started farming with his brother on the century farm in Castle Grove and continued until his death.  On September 8, 1973, he married Rose Wolfe at St Ann's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry.

He enjoyed traveling, flying, playing cards, snowmobiling, and spending time with his family.  He served on the board of Castle Grove Mutual Insurance and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He will be remembered for his love of faith, family, friends and farming.
