Leonard Stutt, 92 died unexpectedly Friday evening, May 17, 2024, at the Jackson County Regional Hospital, Maquoketa. Funeral services will be held 1:00 Thursday afternoon, May 23, 2024, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with Interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery, with Military Honors. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Pastor Neil Harrison and Pastor Wade Reddy will officiate at the services. Surviving is a daughter, Deborah (Robert) Nichols his son-in-law, Larry Benhart, 3 grandchildren, Timothy and Jonathan Nichols, Heather (Doug) Said, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Cynthia, a great-grandson Anthony Nichols, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Leonard Wilbur Stutt was born in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa on May 21, 1931. He was the son of George and Tollette Therese Tholen Stutt. Leonard attended the rural schools of Wayne Township. Leonard served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He married Joyce Barnes on July 15, 1952, at the Wayne Zion Parsonage while he was on leave from service. On his return from service, he started working as a truck driver hauling livestock. He and his brother Ervin later partnered in the livestock hauling business. Leonard worked for the Anamosa Silo Company and the couple relocated with them to Maquoketa. He also operated Stutt Shell gas station in Maquoketa.
The couple returned to Anamosa in later years and Leonard finished his working career at the Iowa Men's Reformatory. Following Joyce's death in 2020 Leonard returned to Maquoketa to be near family. His priorities were family first then his lawn. Every night his grand-dog Sadie would come by to get a cookie.
