LeeRoy Paul Mootz, 84, of Monticello passed away July 24, 2026 at the Monticello Senior Home with his family by his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 Monday August 3, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 6 Sunday August 2 at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Rosary will be said on Sunday at 1:45. Visitation will resume at 10:00 Monday morning at the Church.

LeeRoy was the son of Frank and Ludvina (Weis) Mootz. He was born February 17,1942 at Bellevue Memorial Hospital. He was raised on the family farm between Old Springbrook and Slab Town in rural Jackson County. He started school in Old Springbrook and later attended SS Peter and Paul Catholic School in Springbrook where he finished the 8th grade in May of 1955. He married Janet Kay Deppe June 10th, 1961. He worked as a farm hand, construction worker and then retail sales most of his life. On February 29, 1992 LeeRoy and Jan fulfilled a shared dream by opening the Whiffle Tree Mall. Their mutual love of antiques, combined with LeeRoy's remarkable knowledge of local history, made the business a natural fit. More than an antique shop, the Whiffle Tree Mall became a place where history was preserved, stories were shared, and lasting friendships were made.

LeeRoy is survived by; Children: Angela (Brian) Ward of Florida, Kristi (Joe) Goetz, Monticello and Lynn (Lisa) Mootz, Monticello. Grandchildren: Erin Ward (William Ottlinghaus), Kati Ward of Florida, Jesse (Logan) Goetz-Irwin, Marion and Jonathon (Gabriell) Mootz, Marion, and good friend Lynn Rollinger, two siblings: Lois Portz and Harold Mootz; Sister-in-laws; Bernice Mootz and Vennetta Mootz, and many loved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet, their 1st born infant daughter, brothers; Eugene and Emil, sisters; Esther and Corrine.
