Lonnie Ray Hinrichsen, 89, of Anamosa, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Bickford of Marion Assisted Living.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Anamosa United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kathryn Newhall officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. The family will greet friends from 9 am to the time of service at the church. Please use the Guestbook to share your thoughts, memories, and condolences.
Lonnie was born on July 9, 1936, the son of Albert and Mabel (Hinrichs) Hinrichsen. He attended early grade school in Lost Nation, then his family moved to a farm near Morley. He graduated from Morley High School in 1955. Following graduation, he worked at Collins Radio for a short time.
On September 25, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Eldred, at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa, where they were members. In December 1955 he joined the United States Army. Following basic training they moved to El Paso, TX. Eight months later he was stationed in Italy. Upon returning from the service he went back to work at Collins Radio. In 1960, Lonnie and Carol moved to Cass township north of Anamosa where he was given the opportunity to pursue what he loved to do, farming and raising their five children.
Lonnie enjoyed taking care of his livestock and crops. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, and vacationing in Branson, MO. Lonnie and Carol took part in cruises to the Panama Canal and to Alaska, as well as several other trips.
Survivors include his children Ralph (Sally), Monticello, Laurel (Thomas) Cashman, Montezuma, Randall (Joan) Anamosa, Roxy Hinrichsen, Marion, and Carrie Cummins, Marion, eleven grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, with one on the way, and a brother-in-law Eugene (Mary Lou) Eldred, Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Carol, a grandson Thomas Jonathan Cashman, his parents, and his in-laws, Russell and Greta Eldred.
