Obituary

Lora Gudenkauf age 79, died Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Country House Residence , Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Friday, January 15, 2021 at the St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello. Mask's must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the church.  Social distancing standards need to be strictly observed. Surviving  are 8 children, Kim (Keith) Simoens, DeAnn (Scott) Crawley, both of Cedar Rapids, Keith (Susan) Gudenkauf, Delhi, Charlie (Mary) Gudenkauf, Barb (Brian) Marak, both of Swisher, Rose (Steve Neal) Gudenkauf, Cedar Rapids, Nancy Biggs, El Mirage, Arizona, Steve (Sandy) Gudenkauf, Alburnett, 14 grandchildren, Tyler (Alison) Simoens, Kelsey (Daylis) Deutsch, Anthony Crawley, Lauren (Justin) Schneider, Brianna and Brandon Gudenkauf, Jade (Tim) Fisher, Malia and Grace Gudenkauf, Tanner and Trennan Marak, Ashley Wade, Jessica and James Gudenkauf, 4 great-grandchildren, Layla, Lane, Cole Simoens and Koen Deutsch, and her sister-in-law, Patsy Wernimont, Monticello.  She was preceded in death by her parents , her husband David and 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, William (Ella Mae) and Gary Wernimont.

Lora Wernimont was born April 26, 1941 at Monticello, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Gilbert and Doris (Eggiman) Wernimont.  She attended the Buck Creek Schools graduating in 1959.  Lora then went to work at the Monticello State Bank.

Lora Wernimont and David Gudenkauf were married October 22, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello. The couple farmed near Cascade and later near Swisher. Lora worked at Peoples Bank in Cedar Rapids, the Amana Woolen Mills and Mercy Hospital. In 1985 the couple moved to Phoenix where she worked at  the Good Samaritan Hospital. The couple retired and moved to Lake Delhi in 2001.  She worked part-time at Buliceks in Delhi.   Lora moved to Cedar Rapids in 2014. Lora was a women of strong  faith and  loved  spending  time with her  family.  She will be remembered for her kind heart, patience,  beautiful smile, and sense of humor. The family would like to extend a special thanks the staff at the Country House Residence  for their loving care. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the family to be donated to a charity of their choosing.
