Lorna Rieniets, 90, died Tuesday morning, September 26, 2023, at Pinicon Senior Living, Anamosa following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 Monday afternoon, October 2, 2023, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where visitation will start at 3:00. Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice. Thoughts, Memories, and Condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com .
Surviving are 2 children, Sherry (Jerry) Behrends and Karey Rieniets, 3 grandchildren, Brandee (Pete) Gehl, Breanna (Jay) Welter, Jesse (Jamie) Behrends, 7 great-grandchildren, Elie, Tanner Gehl, John, Ben Welter and Stella Behrends, Courtney (Andy) Cannon and Kirby Gehl and 2 -great-great-grandchildren, Kyran and Beaudan, her sister-in-law, Carol Helgens and 2 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents and her brother, Harlan Helgens.
Lorna Margaret Helgens was born February 25, 1933, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa. She was the daughter of Louis and Augusta Reuter, Helgens. She received her early education in the rural schools of Wayne Township. She completed her education in the Monticello Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1951. Lorna married Raymond Rieniets on May 16, 1954. Lorna worked in various retail jobs over the years. She represented Neo Style eyewear and Hallmark Cards. Her favorite job and last job was working at Wal-Mart in Marion.
Lorna was a huge sports fan, football, basketball professional, or college, it did not matter what teams were playing she was watching. She also liked watching her great-grandkids play sports. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin at Delhi and driving her 1989 red Mustang Convertible.
The family would like to thank Pinicon Senior Living for 4 years of dedicated care, especially her special care-giver Patty, also St. Croix Hospice for the comfort care over the past 6 months.
