Luella DeShaw, age 90, died Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the Good Neighbor Society, Marietta Place following an extended illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 Thursday afternoon December 15, 2022, at St. Luke Catholic Church, Hopkinton, where friends may call from 11:00 until 1:00. Mask are required for the visitation and service. A private family interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Fr. Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello is in charge of the arrangements. Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at goettschonline.com.
Surviving are 4 children, Doug (Barb) DeShaw and Charlene (Scott) Smith, both of Hopkinton, Chuck DeShaw, Cedar Rapids, Carrie (Rick) Wolfe, Casa Grande,AZ, 8 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Junior, her brothers, Gerald, Donald Delbert and Harold. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hopkinton Senior Dining or the Hopkinton Ambulance Service.
Luella Weber was born June 11, 1932 near Sand Springs in Delaware County, Iowa. She graduated from the Coggon High School where she was a member of the basketball team. Luella, Weber married Duane "Junior" DeShaw on April 7, 1953 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Castle Grove. The couple farmed near Buck Creek until 1990 when they moved to Hopkinton.
Luella was active in the community. She was a member of the Kensington Club, the Kil-Kare Klub, the Delaware County Historical Society, and the Gardening Club. She weeded and tended to all the community flower gardens in Hopkinton. She always took care of getting flowers for Sunday Mass, many times from her own garden.
Luella and Junior were members of the Country Cousins Square Dance Club for 35 years. They were part of the group that did Square Dancing with Lawnmowers.
