Marilyn Kirkwood, age 89, of Hopkinton, died Wednesday, July 21st, 2021 at the Good Neighbor Society, Manchester.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 25th, 2021 at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello from 2:00 until 5:00. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 Monday morning , July 26th, 2021 at the Hopkinton Community Church where friends may call after 10:00 . Interment was in the Hopkinton Cemetery.  The Family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Hopkinton Fire Department or the Hopkinton Ambulance Service.

In lieu of the increasing COVID-19 numbers, the family requests that ALL visitors, vaccinated or not ,  wear masks for the visitation and the funeral.

Surviving Marilyn is her son Bob (Linda) Kirkwood of Hopkinton, two granddaughters, Kathy (Brent) Salow of Hopkinton and Kelly (Chris) Schulte of Norway, and 5 great grandchildren, Holly (Jake) Nefzger of Cedar Rapids, Riley Kay Sternhagen of Des Moines, Megan, Morgan, and Cameron Schulte all of Norway. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Maurice, and her sister Charlotte.

Marilyn was born December 25, 1931 near Hopkinton, Iowa at her family home. She was the daughter of Roy and Angie Marolf. She received early education in the rural schools and graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1949. Prior to her marriage, Marilyn worked for Rockwell Collins. On January 14, 1951, Maurice and Marilyn were married at the Presbyterian Church, Hopkinton, Iowa. This marriage lasted nearly 50 years. With her husband, Marilyn opened M&M Drive-In, a small eatery in Hopkinton. Besides farming along side her husband, Marilyn was also a Maquoketa Valley School bus driver for 36 years. She also enjoyed working along side her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in their tomato business, Kirkwood's Sun Country Produce. She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church, a diehard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and the very best gift giver at Christmas. In her spare time, she loved crocheting, solving the Crossword, watching Wheel of Fortune, playing Bingo and card games. She cherished having breakfast with her son every morning, visiting with the ladies downtown for coffee, her annual Good Friday trip with her family, and treating her great grandchildren to sweet treats and "fake bacon" as often as possible.
