Obituary

Marion "Bing" Norton, 91, of Anamosa, died Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Anamosa Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, September 7, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa, with Rev. Sean Smith officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Anamosa Veterans Honor Guard after the funeral mass. Burial will be held in private on a later date. Marion Eugene Norton was born on December 26, 1932, in Anamosa, IA, the son of Leonard and Pearl (Meredith) Norton. He graduated from Anamosa High School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. On April 23, 1955, he married Betty Kula at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stone City. Bing then worked for a short time at Hometown Dairy in Cedar Rapids before attending the DeVry Institute where he studied electronics. Upon his return he worked at Bob Schwartz Radio Repair in Mt. Vernon. He then worked at Anamosa Lumber Company and in 1966 he began his career as storekeeper and bookkeeper for Iowa Electric Light and Power in Anamosa and later transferring to Cedar Rapids. He retired in 1991 after 25 years of service.

He was a member of the church, the Knights of Columbus, the Anamosa Jaycees, the Izaak Walton League., and the Anamosa Chamber of Commerce. He gave freely of his time to many projects around Anamosa, including volunteering at the Grant Wood Store, Anamosa Pumpkin Fest, chairing the Fall Diner and teaching Religious Education – both at St. Patrick's. At the age of 83, he participated in the Honor Flight in 2015.

Bing will be remembered by those he cherished the most, his wife of 69 years Betty, his children Janet (John) Burrow, Maquoketa, Mike (Lori), Raleigh, NC, and Diane Boyer, Milwaukee, WI, his grandchildren Jenny Whitman, Breann (Eric) Brock, and Ryan Boyer, three great grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, his sister Pauline Schneider, as well as by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, son-in-law Steve Boyer, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Buz Arduser, and brother-in-law Ed Schneider.
