Obituary

Marlene Chapman, 91, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2024, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Hopkinton, with interment to follow in the Hopkinton Cemetery. A Parish Vigil service will commence the visitation at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at the church. Visitation will conclude at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening and resume at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning until the service time. Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello is entrusted with arrangements. Surviving are her two children, Don (Shelley) and Kathy Chapman; three grandchildren, Mat (Nicole) Chapman, Dillon (Nicole) Chapman, Bre (Chase) Chapman; her brother, Tom (Donna) DeShaw; and her brother-in-law, Ronnie Wolfe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jean Wolfe, her brother and sister-in-law, Donnie (Margie) DeShaw, and a nephew, Terry DeShaw.

Marlene Ann DeShaw was born on September 23, 1932, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Perry and Regina DeShaw. Marlene graduated from Buck Creek School in 1950 and subsequently worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. On March 17, 1953, she married Dorrance "Smokey" Chapman at St. Luke Catholic Church. The couple operated Double D Trucking out of Sand Springs. Marlene served as a Jailer for Delaware County for 20 years, retiring in 2010.

Marlene cherished baking cookies and brownies for her grandchildren, family, and friends. She also acted as the designated "grandma taxi" for them until they could drive. In 1999, Marlene fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling to Australia and New Zealand.

Marlene's kindness, generosity, and contributions touched the lives of many and she will be deeply missed.
