Obituary

Marlene Countryman, 88 died Saturday morning, October 12, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family and pets.


A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Am Vets Building in Anamosa from 1 until 4.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.

Surviving are 5 children, Peggy (Brad) Payne, Phyllis Camp, Darrin Countryman, Patty Griffin, Dennis (Kay) Countryman, 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents a son David Countryman and her sister Sondra.


Marlene Francis Countryman was born January 17, 1936, at Des Moines, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Lester and Isal Cochrane, Burr. Marlene graduated from high school in Des Moines.  She married David Countryman in Des Moines and was the mother of their 6 children.   Marlene worked at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines before the couple moved to Monticello.  She then worked as a dietary aide at the Monticello Senior Home.   Her most important job was taking care of her grandchildren.


Marlene enjoyed volunteering at Meals on Wheels and being part of the Hardee's Coffee Club. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
