Mary Lawrence was born on May 22, 1936, in Prairieburg, IA, the daughter of Thomas and Mildred (Patnode) Lawrence. She married Galen Schoon on December 4th, 1954. Together they had three children, Dan, Julie, and Tim. Mary married Paul Eilers on January 29, 1999, in Amber, IA. She was employed in the secretarial field and worked for the Town Crier and the Penny Saver.
Mary was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa.
Mary enjoyed many things, crocheting, sewing, singing and dancing. She could even yodel! One of her biggest passions was cooking and baking and she made sure no one went hungry. Mary had a soft spot for animals, often taking care of strays. She loved to travel to see her family, going to Florida, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
She is survived by her son Timothy (June) Schoon, daughter in law Cherri Carlson, grandchildren Hillory (Dave) and Carly (Blake), great grandchildren Sophia, Bryce (Jaci), Ava, and Aubrey, and great greatgrandchild Travis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Galen, her second husband Paul, her daughter Julie Schoon, her son Daniel Schoon, her brother Edward Lawrence, and her beloved dog Mandy.
The family would like to thank the Anamosa Care Center and Above & Beyond Home Health & Hospice Care for their support and for caring for Mary in her final days.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be directed to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
