Obituary

Matthew Lorenzen 48, died suddenly at the family farm on Tuesday October 21, 2025.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10:57 at the Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation rural Central City with interment in the North Madison Pioneers Cemetery, Center Junction.   Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.   Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate at the services. Casual dress is suggested.

He is survived by his wife Robin, 3 children, Jacob (Andrea), Ian, and Jordan, his grandson Henry, his mother Carol (Charles Fairbanks) Lorenzen, 2 siblings, Angie (Joe) Christensen and Nick Lorenzen, his co-pilot Marshall, and in-laws, Dan (Karen) Tarbox, Kathy (Dennis) Valenta, Becky (Pat) Keating, Jenny (Zach) Borst, 4 nieces and nephews, Brookelyn and Nathan Keating, Colton and Chloe Borst.  He was preceded by his father Lloyd.

Matthew John Lorenzen was born quickly on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976, at the Anamosa Hospital.    He graduated from the Midland Community Schools in 1995. Matt and Robin Tarbox were married January 28, 2000, at the Center Junction Presbyterian Church.
Matt had worked for CPS in Wyoming, and he spent 20 years working for Cedar Rapids Winpump before farming full-time and operating MJ Lorenzen Trucking.

Matt was very active in Boy Scouts, he was assistant Scout Master, Scout master and Committee Chairman for Troop 66. He served as a unit commissioner and a member of the camp properties and maintenance committee for Hawkeye Area Council and received the district award of merit. He completed the premier adult leader training wood badge c3-172-13 and was a bear patrol. He was a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, Chapter Advisor, Camp Promotions committee Advisor, Associate Lodge Advisor, Lodge Advisor, for Cho-gun-mun-a-nock lodge #467. For many years he hardly missed a workday at camp and for that he received his community service flap and ranger beads. Matt also held a First-Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.
