Obituary

Max Arthur, age 90, died peacefully, Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Winslow House, Marion.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday morning, February 1, 2019 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa with interment in the Norwich Cemetery, Martelle.  Friends may call after 9:00 at the Goettsch Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy who took wonderful care of Max in his final days.

Surviving are 4 children, Nancy (John) Horak, Palm Harbor, FL. Maria (Daryl) Martin, Marion, David (Dina) Arthur, Colorado Springs, CO., Kenneth (Jan) Arthur, Tampa, FL., 15 grandchildren, 34, great-grandchildren, his  sister, Gloria McCord, Cedar Rapids.    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mae Irene in 2016, 5 brothers and 6 sisters.

Max Albert Arthur was born July 20, 1928 at Anamosa, Iowa.  He was the son of Charles and Sophia Anderson, Arthur. Max graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools in 1946.  He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII and served in the Philippines.

Max married Irene Maiden on August 27, 1950 at the Martelle Methodist Church.   The couple lived in Dubuque while Max got his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Dubuque.  They later lived in Anamosa and Cedar Rapids before moving to Marion where they have lived the past 50 years. Max was employed at Collins Radio until 1980. Max also sold Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners for many years.  He was one of the top salesmen in the company and won trips to New York City, Paris and Rome and many other prizes.  He enjoyed traveling to see family and wintering in Florida. He loved to go fishing and was a family man.  Since 1953 he had been a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and attended Lafayette Salem Evangelical Church in Alburnett in recent years.  Max was a member of the American Legion Post 298 in Marion.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the residents and staff at Higley Mansion for their friendship and care, during Max's time with them since 2017.
