Obituary

Melissa (Malkewitz) Murrell 58, of Davenport, died suddenly on Sunday, October 27, 2024 in her husband's arms.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 Monday afternoon, November 4, 2024 at the SS Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello with interment in the Prairie Hill Cemetery.  Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate the services.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello has taken Melissa and her family into their care. Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left for Melissa's family by signing the guest book at www.goettschonline.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mawuvio's Outreach Programme via PayPal or directly to the fund with the same name at First Central State Bank in Goose Lake, Iowa.

Surviving is her husband Steve, four children, April (Blount) Malkewitz, Amber (Rob) Polak, Rachel (Ryan Hayes) Malkewitz, Caleb (Sydney Ksor) Malkewitz, two step-daughters, April (Charlie) Murrell-Toby, Sarah (Brian) Schutte, 15 grandchildren, her parents, Duane and Connie Kromminga, her siblings, Shawn (Shelly) Kromminga, Chad (Kari) Kromminga,  Aimee (Bobby) Ratliff, Amanda (Eric Benesh) Stastny.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard and Phyllis Kromminga, Glenn and Mazie Drake, her in-laws, James and Evelyn Murrell, Jim Murrell ; Kevin Stastny; Aunt Betty Kromminga and God-father, Roger Kromminga.

Melissa Dawn Kromminga was born September 28, 1966 in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Duane and Connie (Drake) Kromminga.

Melissa graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1985, later attending UNI. Melissa married Walter Malkewitz on October 4, 1986, at SS Peter and Paul Lutheran Church.  The couple would later divorce.

Melissa taught special education at Clinton High School for many years.  She married Steve Murrell on June 27, 2009 in LeClaire, Iowa.  Melissa was an accomplished pianist playing at churches and giving piano lessons for many years.

Melissa loved to bake pies and other goodies, she enjoyed word puzzles, playing backgammon, and pinochle. She especially enjoyed spoiling her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed greatly.
