Peter "PJ" "Pete" Hasler age 85, died Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Anamosa Care Center following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 Friday morning, March 11, 2022, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Surviving is his wife, of 63 years, Betty, his sons, Wade and Kevin (Chris), a granddaughter, Ashley Halser and 3 great-granddaughters, Elli, Skyli, and Lilly, 2 sisters, Esther Kirby, Martha Lantermans, 2 brothers, Ken (Bev Harms) Hasler, Lester (Yolanda) Hasler, and in-laws, Sharon Hasler, Ron (Brenda) Burrichter, Verna Burrichter. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Jessica his sister, Susanna Ellison, and 2 brothers James and Robert.
Peter Joseph Hasler was born on January 14, 1937, at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of James and Kathrine Meyer, Hasler. Pete attended the Monticello Community Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy, at age 17, working as a machinist mate. He returned from service and attended Provo Trade Tech School. Pete then worked for Altorfer Machinery in Cedar Rapids for 10 years. Pete married Elizabeth "Betty" Burrichter on September 13, 1958, at Peace United Church of Christ. The couple farmed east of Monticello for 38 years.
Peter was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ. He served as a Lovell Township Trustee, and on the rural fire department board and ambulance board. He delivered food pantry supplies for 10 years. Peter was proud of his military service, especially working with Dr. Tom Dooley in helping transfer refugees to safety in South Vietnam.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Anamosa Care Center, Heritage Specialty Care and St. Luke's Hospital for the care during Pete's illness.
