Obituary

Raymond Payne age 93, died Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Anamosa Care Center following an extended illness

Private family services will be held at a later date.  Interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery.  Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa has taken Raymond and his family into their care.

Those remembering Raymond are  is his children,  Barb (Collin) Aarhus, Ronald Payne, Mike (Karen) Payne, Leanna Payne, Faye Payne, Doug Payne, Ray (Judy) Sterns, Connie (Jerry) Coyle, Marilyn (George) Coyle, Pearl Sterns,  24 grandchildren and 47 great- grandchildren, 16 great-great Grandchildren and 1 due in March of 2021, 3 siblings, Gary and Dick Payne and Dorothy Redmond.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Violet a daughter-in-law, Linda Payne, a grandson, Mark Payne, a granddaughter, Julie Payne, a grandson Travis and siblings, Katie Glynn and Howard Payne.

Raymond Harold Payne was born January 22, 1927 at Hopkinton, Iowa.  He was the son of Harold and Bessie Tharp, Payne.   He received his education in the Hopkinton Schools.  Raymond served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater.  Raymond H. Payne married Violet May Spooner, December 31, 1965 in Cedar Rapids. Raymond worked at Big Bills in Wyoming as a mechanic.

Violet preceded him in death on May 2, 2018 after 52 years of marriage.  He was previously married to Arlene Bissell and to Verma Sickels both marriages ending in divorce.

Ray enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking in his shop.   Ray enjoyed a good conversation and had many friends over the years.   The Family would like to thank the Anamosa Care Center for all the wonderful care given to Ray over many years he was a resident there.
