Raymond Rieniets, 94, formerly of Monticello, died peacefully, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Pinicon Place Care Center Anamosa surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where friends may call after 10:00. Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Ray and his family into their care. Surviving is his wife Lorna, 2 children, Sherry (Jerry) Behrends and Karey Rieniets, 3 grandchildren, Brandee (Pete) Gehl, Breanna (Jay) Welter, Jesse (Jamie) Behrends, 5 great-grandchildren, Elie, Tanner, John, Ben and Stella, 2 step-great-grandchildren, Courtney and Kirby and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren, Kyran and Beaudan, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 siblings, Leona Bender, Kathleen Streeper, Betty Hinrichs, Paul Rieniets and Mildred Hinrichs, and brother-in-law, Harlan Helgens.
Raymond Henry Rieniets was born October 17, 1928 in Richland Township, Jones County, Iowa. He was the son of Gerhard and Margaret Guyan, Rieniets. He received his early education in Richland Township School #4. He graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1947. He was a truck driver for Claire Eggiman and also drove a school bus for the Monticello schools. Ray served in the United States Army during the Korea War. He returned home and married Lorna Helgens on May 16, 1954 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He started his 37,year career with Iowa Electric. He read meters in Monticello, then die appliance servicing, was a truck driver, he did sub-station manitenece and finished his career servicing electric meters. In retirement he refurbished a store in Mount Vernon for Lorna.
He enjoyed, mushroom hunting, NASCAR, helping others and spending time at the cabin in Delhi. He tried never to miss any activities for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
