Robyn Sue Monk (Gronewold), 64, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, in Central City, Iowa, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Anamosa, Iowa, to Marvin and Janice Gronewold, Robyn grew up in Anamosa and Stone City and attended school in Anamosa. Some of her most treasured childhood memories were made living and playing in Stone City, Iowa.

From a young age, she was the "Mother Hen" to her siblings — Scot, Lori, Amy, and Tom — naturally stepping into the role of caregiver and protector, beginning a lifelong pattern of putting those she loved before herself.

As a young woman, Robyn married Mark Bray and became mother to her first child, Heather, a role she embraced with unwavering love and devotion. Even in her early years, her gentle strength and nurturing heart were already shaping the life she would go on to build.

On December 10, 1988, she married Keith Alan Monk at the Baptist Church in Anamosa. Together, they built a blended family that became the center of her world: Justin, Derek, Heather, Michael, and Mathew. Robyn poured herself into motherhood, raising her children with patience, quiet strength, and unconditional love that never wavered.

The family lived in Anamosa for many years, where Robyn worked at the Anamosa Care Center and the Abbe Center for Community Mental Health, forming deep and lasting friendships along the way. In 2002, they moved to Florida. While Keith ran Monk Auto Repair, Robyn devoted herself to raising their youngest sons and caring for her family. Her home remained her greatest ministry, and her kitchen was always filled with warmth, comfort, and the feeling of being welcomed and loved.

Her family will remember her tenderloins, soups, casseroles, cream puffs, scalloped potatoes and ham, and rhubarb cake made with love for Michael and Mathew’s summertime birthdays when the rhubarb was ripe and ready.

Robyn also volunteered with a local hospice, where she found deep meaning in preparing final home-cooked meals for patients in need of comfort and dignity.

Robyn's faith deepened in Florida, and she attended First Baptist Church of Osteen. She served in the nursery and kitchen and cherished her church family. Her faith was her anchor, and her greatest hope was that her loved ones would know Jesus and be reunited with her in Heaven.

She was selfless, devoted, and deeply nurturing — the steady heart of her family.

She loved music, coffee, animals, and especially her children and grandchildren, and Jesus. She was known as "Grandma At The Beach" or simply "Grandma." She happily answered to the many other endearing names spoken with love — Granny, Gramma, Mama, and Mom.

She is survived by her loving husband, Keith; her children, Justin Monk, Derek Monk (Alexandria), Heather Aswegan (Michael), Michael Monk (Rhonda), and Mathew Monk (Brianna); her grandchildren, Daniel, Brooke and Mykal; Lilliana Warren, Ryan & Logan, Kloe & Alexis; Annabelle, Jayden (Alyssa), and Ian; great-granddaughter Blake; her siblings, Scot Gronewold (Inez), Lori Mahoney (Phil), Amy Jared (Scott), and Tom Gronewold (Terri); and many other extended family and friends whose lives were touched by her love.

She was faithfully cared for during her illness by her daughter and son-in-law's dog, Max. Max was her fierce and loyal protector, who never left her side.

Robyn was preceded in death by her grandparents Jesse and Mary Meade and John and Mabel Gronewold; her in-laws Genevieve and August Monk; her dear friend Kimberly Chambers; her grandchildren Eleanor and Oliver Monk; and great-granddaughter Phoebe Gentry.

Her life is remembered in her children, grandchildren, family, friends, church community, and all those she served and loved.

Though she is gone, her love and legacy remain alive in every life she touched.

Her final wish was simple:

Know Jesus. Love one another. And meet me in Heaven one fine day.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Anamosa, Iowa. A funeral service will follow from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa, Iowa.

Family and friends are invited to gather afterward in the church basement for food, refreshments, and fellowship remembering Robyn.
