Shirley Otten Hanssen, 84, died Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held, 11:00 on Tuesday morning, September 29, 2026, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church where friends can call after 10:00. Pastor David Ramiesh will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Shirley and her family into their care.

There are no immediate survivors. Shirley was preceded by her parents, and siblings, Duane and Ann.

Shirley Jean Otten was born February 22, 1942, at Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Rena Kammerman Otten. Shirley graduated from the Monticello Community Schools and then went to work as the Receptionist for Dr. Clarence Hosford and later for Dr. Kevin Stingley. She later worked in a home health care business and finally at Long Drug. Shirley married Don Hanssen on April 10, 2006, and enjoyed their time together until his death in 2012.
