Obituary

Shirley Porter, 75, formerly of Monticello, died surrounded by her son and his family on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Longview Care Center from complications of Parkinsons

Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello. Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Please use the Guestbook and share your thoughts, stories, memories, and condolences.

Shirley Mae Faber was born July 10, 1946 in Monticello, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Gudenkauf) Faber.  Shirley attended the Cedar Valley rural school in Dubuque County.  She graduated from the Cascade Acquin Catholic School in 1964.  Shirley went to work at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids.  On May 18, 1968, Shirley Faber married Dorance Milton Porter, Jr at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sand Springs.  Two children were born to this union.  Shirley had the privilege of raising her children and helping other areas of her community from cleaning Sacred Heart Catholic Schools and enjoyed working at Yeoman's, Mintex and Polo Plastics.  Shirley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello.  She also enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, gardening, making picture books, researching family history and babysitting her grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter Lisa (Jeff) Bauer, Monticello, a son, Lee (Nichole), Missouri Valley, six granddaughters, Alexia, Rylee, and Breanna Bauer, Victoria, Alivia and Sophia Porter, her siblings, Jim (LuAnn) Faber, Hampton Falls, N.H., Al (Maureen)Faber, Dan (Sharon) Faber, Cascade, Ann (Bob) Kerper, Bernard, Steve (Ann) Faber, Hopkinton and Mike (Deb) Faber, Monticello, 4 brothers in law,  Bob (Sharon) Porter, Hopkinton, David Porter , Daniel Porter, Daryl (Deb) Porter,  all of Monticello.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milton in 2018, her parents, and her mother and father-in-law, Dorance and Velma Porter, a sister in law, Starr Porter, her grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

In the last few years of her life, Shirley deeply missed her husband and though she will be missed here on earth, she is happy to be reunited with him again.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Longview, especially Rosemary, Tammy, Sabine, Catrina, Tori, and Ali for the exceptional care given to her in the past few years.  The family is certain you will miss being called "Teri"!  The family would also like to thank Generations Hospice staff, especially Shannon, Jen, and Deacon Mike, for the comfort you provided her in her path to heaven the last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers and gifts the family requests memorials be sent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello, Iowa in Shirley's honor.
