A memorial service will be held on May 16, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., at the Bethel Church, 7775 Collinsville Road, Troy, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held on May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, Iowa, with interment at Oakwood Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mable Rosenstiel Meyer; his brothers, John and Steve Meyer; and his sister, Sara Lily.
Stanley is survived by his children, Jason Meyer and Shannon (Daniel) Tallitsch; his grandchildren, Violette, Liliana, and James Tallitsch; and his brother, William Meyer. He is also survived by several sisters‑in‑law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Stanley was born on March 5, 1946, in Lovell Township, Iowa, to John and Mabel Rosenstiel Meyer. He was the third of five children and was raised on a farm in eastern Iowa. He developed a lifelong love of football as a teenager, playing for both Monticello and Anamosa, and later continued his football career at the University of Iowa on scholarship. In May 1970, Stanley graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
Following graduation, Stanley accepted a position with Monsanto, which relocated him to the St. Louis area. There he met Cheryl, the mother of his children, and they were married on August 21, 1971. Shortly thereafter, Stanley built his first home for his family in Troy, IL.
On October 21, 1974, Stanley was issued his FAA private pilot license and later earned his instrument rating. He was an avid pilot for over 30 years and owned his own airplane, which he used both for his engineering business and personal travel. Stanley derived the greatest satisfaction from flying with his family. During his years as a pilot, he also took pride in flying children with medical needs through Lifeline Pilots.
In 1977, Stanley earned his Professional Engineering License in Mining and Materials and later obtained a master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. In 1984, he relocated to Spring Valley, Illinois, and in 1991 he founded M&K Chemical Engineering Consultants. He was especially proud to have worked side‑by‑side with his son for many years and to see him ultimately take over leadership of a successor company they started together. Stanley never quite retired; even in his later years he could often be found scribbling calculations on napkins, working through one problem after another. He never turned down an opportunity to help his grandchildren with their physics and chemistry homework.
Stanley was a beloved storyteller and a kind and generous father and grandfather. He was a Christian man with a strong faith. He loved to travel and spent his children's early years exploring the country in a green GMC motorhome, often remarking that those trips created memories he would cherish forever. He also loved card games and passed that joy on to his grandchildren during summers at the lake playing Euchre with them. Stanley enjoyed watching movies and playing poker at the casino, and in later years he spent many holidays, weekends, and trips traveling with his daughter Shannon and his grandchildren.
