Steven Smith age, 78, died Friday evening, June 23, 2023, at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Friday morning, June 30, 2023, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa with interment in the Riverside Cemetery with Military Honors. Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate at the services. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7, Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Memorials may be directed to Honor Flight, Rhythm of Life, or St. Paul Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Karen, 2 sons, Troy (Lynn), Jeffry (Jessica), 4 grandchildren, Caitlynn, Sam, Hayden, and Tristan, his brother, Roger (Sue), and in-laws, Caryles (Bonnie) Morarend, Steven (Mary) Morarend, Laura Morarend, Richard (Dottie) Young; his aunts, Nelda and Eileen Mead and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Philip, his in-laws, Earl and Phyllis Morarend, JoAnn Young, Leanna Morarend, and Kevin Morarend.
Steven Allen Smith was born on January 7, 1945, in Anamosa, Iowa. He was the son of William and Dorothy (Mead) Smith. Steve graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools in 1963. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Steven married Karen Morarend on February 19, 1972, at St Andrew Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The couple resided in Anamosa where Steve was a telephone technician for a total of 37 years for Northwestern Bell, US West and later Qwest He was a member of the CWA local and the Telephone Pioneers of America, the American Legion and St. Paul Lutheran Church. Steve enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, watching his sons and grandchildren playing sports, fishing trips to Wisconsin with the family, and cruises with Karen.
